Long-term project goals

• Lightweight environment for computer-aided learning and testing

Saying 'lightweight' i mean that user should not be forced to learn great number of new terms, read e-learn huge standards or install tomcat and setup SQL database in order to create simple test. This means that a user which downloaded mentat should be able to start using it as fast as possible.

Users of mentat are teachers and students. Teacher is able to easily create a course: set of questions and materials divided into sections, give the course to students for them to learn it or perform testing in class on this course. Student is able to install mentat on his computer and get tarball with course from teacher/website and learn it gradually and prepare to exam.

Design decisions

• Qt-only, no boost or other heavyweight deps
• Cross-platform (should work everywhere where Qt runs)
• Documents are stored as XML, validated with schema, presented with XSLT stylesheets in WebKit. Statistics is stored in SQL database. All XML is human-editable.
• Autonomous mode is available. No internet connection is required
